If you’re like me, you love a good shawarma. Whether it’s chicken, lamb, beef or falafel, there’s something about the juicy meat that makes my mouth water. In fact, I’ve been known to eat it at nearly every meal time! But where do you go when you need your next fix of Best Shawarma Calgary? Well luckily for Calgarians (and anyone else who visits our great city), there are plenty of options available here in Calgary. From Aroy-Dee Thai & Asian Cuisine to Mama’s Grill & Pita House (and everything in between), here’s a guide to some of the best places for shawarma in town:
Aladdin Shawarma
Aladdin Shawarma is located in the heart of Kensington and offers a variety of traditional Lebanese dishes. The restaurant serves shawarma sandwiches with chicken, beef or lamb served on a bed of rice or fries. They also offer falafel wraps, hummus plates, kofta (meatballs) and salads for vegetarians. On their menu you’ll also find baklava (a sweet pastry), Arabic coffee and tea to enjoy after your meal!
Aladdin Shawarma offers daily specials that are hard to resist: Monday – buy one get one free; Tuesday – family night where you can get any two meals for $20; Wednesday – student night where students get 30% off their bill; Thursday – ladies night where ladies receive 20% off their bill; Friday – weekend special where customers receive 25% off when they purchase any two meals before 5pm
Aroy-Dee Thai & Asian Cuisine
Aroy-Dee Thai & Asian Cuisine is a great place to get Shawarma. Located on 8th Avenue SW, this restaurant has a wide variety of Shawarma options and is open late. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious!
My favorite dish is Beef Shawarma with rice and hummus. The beef is juicy and tender, and it comes with plenty of rice and hummus so you can make a meal out of just one order.
Baan Thai Kitchen
Location:
Baan Thai Kitchen is located at #147, 5010 Macleod Trail South in Calgary. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m., Sunday (closed on Tuesdays).
Menu Items:
The menu at Baan Thai Kitchen features traditional Thai dishes such as pad see ew ($11), curry chicken ($13) and shrimp pad Thai ($15). There’s also an array of vegetarian entrees like green curry tofu ($14) or vegetable stir fry ($13). The restaurant also offers some Western options like pork chops ($17) or grilled salmon ($19).
Istanbul Shawarma House
Istanbul Shawarma House is located in the heart of downtown Calgary. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, so you can stop by for some delicious food any time of day.
The menu includes a variety of shawarma options such as chicken, beef and falafel as well as sides like hummus, rice and salad. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, try one of their specialty dishes like beef kabob or lamb shish kebab! There are also vegetarian options available upon request. Prices range from $6-$11 depending on what type of meat you want with your wrap; however most wraps fall within this range so there shouldn’t be too much sticker shock when ordering at Istanbul Shawarma House!
Mama’s Grill & Pita House
Mama’s Grill & Pita House is a family-run restaurant that serves up Middle Eastern dishes. The owner, Mama, has been in business for over 20 years and is known for her falafel and shawarma.
Mama’s Grill & Pita House has been serving up authentic Lebanese cuisine to Calgarians since 1997. The menu offers a variety of dishes ranging from delicious shawarma wraps to freshly baked pita breads that are perfect for dipping into hummus or baba ganoush (a spread made with eggplant). You can also try their famous falafel plate if you’re looking for something lighter–this dish features deep-fried balls made from ground chickpeas mixed with onion, parsley and garlic served alongside salad greens drizzled with tahini sauce (sesame paste).
