Welcome to our full guide on how to use a machine to bind books. When putting together a presentation, you want it to look as clean and professional as possible. Ring binders are a good way to keep papers organized and easy to find, but they lack the professional look that many presentation materials need. When things like this happen, a coil binding machine becomes your best friend very quickly. It helps you make something that looks good, is easy to read, and, if necessary, is easy to carry around. If you don’t know how to use a binder or want to know more about how they work, here’s everything you need to know about these amazing machines.
Kinds of Binding Machine
But, as with any invention, the basic model changed, and now there are many different kinds. If you want to know how to quickly bind paper and make it look as polished and perfect as possible, you should find the one that works best for you. Before we get to that, let’s take a look at the five most common kinds of binding machines.
The comb binder is first on the list. Even though the basic ideas are the same as Smyth’s first model, this one is much smaller and easier to use. It works by making holes in the long edge of the paper and then putting in a comb, which is a plastic spine.
The wire binder is one of the most popular ways to put things together. To make this work, you punch holes in the papers along the long edge and then put a spiral of wire in between them.
The punch-and-bind method is also used by the coil binder machine. Instead of a wire coil, the spiral that holds everything together is made of plastic.
Instead of making holes and putting them in spines, thermal binding machines use a special kind of hot glue. These are the closest thing outside of publishing to bookbinding that meets publisher standards.
Wire Binding Machine
Wire binding machine work in the same way. First, the sheets to be bound must be punched with the right pattern for a wire-binding punch. Next, you’ll need to put the wire coil through the holes and then put the whole document in the binder to close the wire coils. Wire binding can’t be undone as comb binding can, so it’s even more important to make sure all your pages are in the right order, lined up right, and facing the right way.
Coil Binding Machine
It can be a little different to learn how to use a binding machine with plastic coils. The part of the process where you punch is the same, but you need to make sure you use the right punching pattern. But once that’s done, you have to twist a small part of the plastic coil by hand before putting it in the binding machine. Then, the rollers of the machine will quickly turn the plastic spiral, making it corkscrew through the remaining holes. Once the coil is in place, you may need a pair of cutters or strong scissors to cut off any extra.
